Description

The face is absent, yet nothing feels missing.

Freed from expression, the body becomes landscape; a study of light, texture and form. The quiet curve of the neck and shoulders reminds us that not every portrait is about identity. Sometimes presence is found in the parts of ourselves that simply exist, without performance.

Cultural Essence

Working at the intersection of fashion photography and classical portraiture, Nigerian photographer Lakin Ogunbanwo creates images that are at once intimate and enigmatic. Drawing on the visual traditions of African studio photography, his work explores identity through form, shadow and composition. At the heart of his practice is a desire to document the culture of Lagos, expand the contemporary African visual archive, and tell stories through self-represented African narratives.

Some photographs are understood at first glance. Others ask for patience. They reveal themselves slowly, through the way light settles across a surface, the tension of a silhouette, or the quiet space between what is shown and what is withheld. They leave room for interpretation, inviting each viewer to complete the story in their own way.

At Cardoon Studio, we have chosen these works not simply because they are beautiful, but because they stay with you. They are the kind of pieces that bring atmosphere to a room, invite conversation, and quietly become part of the way a home feels over time.
