Home Styling
  • One tile changes a corner. Twenty tiles change a room. They work on a kitchen splashback, around a bathroom mirror, or framed as a single object on a shelf. The matte olive glaze sits quietly next to natural materials: stone, linen, raw wood. Without competing with them. Use them in a regular pattern for something calm and deliberate, or break the grid for something that feels more collected over time. They ask to be placed somewhere with light. Morning sun will find the variation in the glaze. Evening light will flatten it into something softer.
Cultural Essence

For generations, Manises was not a town that made ceramics. It was a town made by ceramics. The workshops defined the rhythm of daily life: who worked, what they learned, how they spent their time, who they married. Entire families organised themselves around the kiln. Fathers passed mineral knowledge to their children not as a trade secret but as a shared language, the way you know the streets of the place you grew up in.

That knowledge shaped the physical town too. House facades were covered in leftover tiles. Street names recorded the workshops that once lined them. The local festival still throws ceramic pieces from floats into the crowd, a ritual that turns the object of labour into an act of collective joy. The town did not just produce ceramics. It expressed itself through them.

What is at stake now is not the survival of a technique but the survival of a way of life built around it. The workshops that remain are not museums. They are living workplaces where the connection between earth, hand, colour, and imagination still holds. A UNESCO Creative City, Manises is trying to carry that forward: not by preserving the past but by finding new reasons for the craft to exist in the present, and new hands willing to keep it going.

Material Intelligence

Terracotta clay from Manises, shaped and painted by hand. The same hands, the same techniques, practised in this town outside Valencia for over a hundred years.

The glaze is applied by brush, colour by colour. No two tiles come out identical. The edges shift slightly, the tone deepens or lifts depending on where it sat in the kiln. This is not inconsistency. It is the record of how it was made.

Fired at high temperature, the glaze fuses to the body. What remains is waterproof, mould resistant, and hard enough to outlast the wall it's mounted on.

Manises has been the centre of Spanish ceramic tradition since the 14th century. The craft never left. It just stopped being noticed. These tiles bring it back into rooms that are lived in.

Our Values

MADE SLOWLY BY HAND.

Each tile is shaped, glazed and finished by specialist makers, using techniques refined through generations. The marks of the hand remain visible, giving every surface its own character.

CLAY, GLAZE AND COLOUR.

We choose natural clays and expressive glazes for their depth, texture and response to light. Small variations in tone, surface and finish are intentional, no two tiles are exactly alike.

HAND-MADE IN SPAIN.

Our tiles are made in Manises (Spain), a city shaped by centuries of ceramic making. Its community keeps the knowledge and human touch of this remarkable ceramic tradition alive.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I use these handmade ceramic tiles?

Our handmade ceramic tiles are suitable for interior walls and floors, including kitchen splashbacks, bathroom walls, showers, feature walls and flooring.

Their glossy glazed finish is easy to clean and brings colour, texture and character to everyday spaces.

We do not recommend outdoor installation in locations where temperatures fall below −5°C, as freezing conditions may damage the tiles.

Will my tiles have variations in colour and finish?

Yes. Each tile is individually hand-painted and glazed in Spain, creating subtle variations in colour, texture and finish. These natural differences are part of the character of handmade ceramics.

We recommend ordering samples to see the colour and glossy finish in person before choosing your tiles. For a balanced result, mix tiles from different boxes during installation.

Can I mix tile colours or order fewer than 50 tiles?

Our tiles are sold in boxes of 50, with samples available to purchase separately.

Looking for a personalised combination? You can mix two colours of the same tile size within one box of 50, allowing you to create a unique finish for your space.

Simply email team@cardoonstudio.com with your preferred colours and we'll help arrange your order.

How many tiles do I need for my project?

The number of tiles you need depends on your surface area and chosen tile size.

Each box contains 50 tiles, with coverage varying by size. You can use the tile calculator on our product pages to estimate how many boxes your project requires.

We recommend allowing an additional 10–15% for cuts, breakages and future repairs, depending on your installation layout.

Need help calculating quantities? Email team@cardoonstudio.com and we'll be happy to advise.

How long does delivery take, and how much does shipping cost?

Our handmade ceramic tiles are usually dispatched from Spain within 5 working days, with delivery transit time added depending on your location.

Shipping costs are displayed on each product page and confirmed at checkout. We offer worldwide delivery, and tile orders are excluded from our standard free-delivery offer.

Working to a project deadline? Email team@cardoonstudio.com before ordering and we'll help confirm the expected delivery timeframe.

What happens if my tiles arrive damaged?

If your tiles arrive damaged in transit or have a quality defect, we'll arrange replacements for the affected tiles within 7 working days.

Simply email team@cardoonstudio.com with your order number and photographs of the affected tiles and packaging. We'll take care of the replacement process.

For information about cancellations and returns, please refer to the terms on your chosen tile's product page.

Can I order samples before purchasing a full box?

Yes. You can order samples of our handmade ceramic tiles to see their true colour, glossy glaze and finish in your own space before committing to a full box.

Simply select the sample option on your chosen tile's product page. Samples are shipped from Spain, with delivery costs displayed before checkout.

We recommend viewing samples in both natural and artificial light to find the right colour for your project.
